FeetFirst update - May 2017

Just over four years ago, NZM embarked on an ambitious project to develop an estimated breeding value (EBV) for footrot. With excellent support from the fine-wool growing community, the work has moved through several phases to determine the best way to achieve the ultimate goal - a new way to find the animals that are least likely to succumb to footrot.

While there is no silver bullet for combating footrot, we have successfully developed a breeding value for selecting rams that are more genetically resistant to the disease. Click here for more from Dr. Mark Ferguson on this important project.
